Making a Praying Mantis

Materials:

  • A wooden clothespin
  • Green paint and a paintbrush
  • Green pipe cleaners (2)
  • Googly Eyes
  • Glue

Instructions:

  1. Paint the Body: Paint the entire clothespin green and let it dry. This will be the body of your praying mantis.
  2. Create the Legs:                                                                                                                                                                                           • Take one pipe cleaner and wrap it around the top section of the clothespin (near the opening) to create the front          “praying” legs. Bend them into a cool praying position.                                                                                                                   • Take the second pipe cleaner and cut it in half. Wrap each half around the middle and lower sections of the clothespin      to create the other four legs.
  3. Add the Head and Eyes: At the top of the clothespin (the part that opens), glue on two googly eyes. You can even draw a little mouth with a marker.
  4. Give it an Antenna: Cut a small piece from a leftover pipe cleaner and glue it to the top of the head for an antenna.
